hair cut

Maggie asked me to cut her hair last night. I told her to wait til today to make sure that she really wanted to do it. She still did today so I attacked with my safety scissors.

It's so cute!

2nd day in Orlando

Today was a pretty relaxed day. Maggie slept from 6pm to 9am. What is that? 15 hours? She was in a better mood today. We ate cheerios and went swimming and ate Chick fil a for lunch. Then, NahNah took us to Red Lobster for lunch. This was Maggie's afternoon snack. Then, she asked for ice cream!

Woot. woot!

I'm so excited. I met with my friend Laura and her boyfriend, Sam, today at lunch. We had a good time talking and boring Sam with stories from college. It was good to catch up. They were in Orlando for the weekend, too.

Laura just called me and Sam just asked her to marry him. I am so excited. He proposed tonight at Epcot at the same restaurant where they had their first date. Good job, Sam. I'm so happy for you, my spy girl!

Maggie's last day of preschool

today was Maggie's last day of preschool.

i love her preschool. her teachers are all certified teachers and love my "drama queen".

one of her teacher's told me that she calls her daughter once a week in Slidell, La to give her an update on what Maggie is saying in class.

it was not the last day of preschool for everyone else, but it was a picnic at the park for all the summer birthdays. we walked to the park and had a picnic in the classroom.

she brought all of her teachers a glass jug with tea packets in it to make sun tea during the summer.

I have posted more pictures here. http://picasaweb.google.com/coleminer77/LastDayOfPreschool

The other things

I remembered what I forgot.

1. Willie is walking on his back leg.WOOT. Willie got really hurt in the backyard during clean up day at church. We had a babysitter over here and about 2.5 million kids over here playing. Willie got hurt. After 2 weeks of limping, we took him to the doctor. After an X-ray, we found out that he had torn his ACL. We could have surgery to fix it but it was very expensive. We decided not to have it. It was a really hard decision. Well, today, he has started putting weight on it again. He's acting like a puppy. Like he really feels better. He sometimes just tiptoes on it, but he seems to feel better. I'm so happy.

2. We are going to DW (have I mentioned that?!) and on Sunday, one of my best friends from Georgia College, Laura, will be there! She and Sam are going on a weekend trip to DW, so we are going to meet them at the Rainforest Cafe. Maggie is so excited to meet her. I have told Maggie about Laura and she was so happy when I told her today. I can feel the excitement building and building in Maggie! It's going to be so much fun to catch up with Laura!

A smattering of things

I love going back and reading these Maggie quotes. So, I have to be sure to write them down.

I told Maggie yesterday that we were going to Disney. Yeah, I caved. She is pretty stinking excited. Then, I told her about the shoes. She told me that I was the best mommy ever. awwww

We had our last MOPS meeting of the year. I love MOPS so much. We had a spa day and I got my eyebrows waxed for the first time ever. It didn't hurt too bad. Maybe like a band aid being ripped off my face. Then, they cut my hair. It's a shorter version of my haircut. Maggie brought a gift card for her Moppets worker, too.

Yesterday, she had dance classes with Miss Nik Nak. She was complaining about something hurting. Maggie told me that Nikki prayed for her during dance class. How sweet!

I watch my Roomba vacuum a lot. Steven bought it for me during a woot off. I have been begging for one for about 3 years now.

I ran to Starbucks for much needed caffeine. I haven't been going to bed at night and getting up too early and on the go all day long. Maggie called me as soon as I left the door. Guess what? She was "telling" on Daddy again. It was hilarious.

There's something else that I wanted to say, but my head isn't fully functioning.

Happy Mother's Day to me

I love my Mother's day present. It came in the mail today. I LOVE IT!

(maggie and mickey and willie hate it!)

Tattle tale

Maggie knows that I hate it when Steven pulls on her toes to pop them. So, when he does it, she comes screaming to me that "Daddy pulled my toes". I pretend to yell at him and she laughs! What a great game.

So, I am at the coffee shop working and I got a phone call. A little voice said, "Mama, I love you." I thought, oh how sweet. She just called because she misses me. Then, she whispered, "Daddy pulled my toes. I mean, he hasn't yet, but he might pull them". So, I talked to Steven and told him what she said. She was pre-emptively telling on him in case he pulled her toes.

Prince Caspian

I can't wait to see Prince Caspian. I am so ready to go and see it. The coolest part about it is that we can take Maggie with us. She gets so excited when she sees the previews on tv. I don't have to find a babysitter! Who wants to go with us?!

Family fun

I got a magazine in the mail the other day and I love it. It has the coolest ideas in it. It's called Family Fun magazine. It's all these cool ideas for creative things to do with your children. I love it. Here's the website.

http://familyfun.go.com/

I have to do some of these things with Maggie soon. Don't they look like fun?

Maggie and I got a good idea from Katie today. She took her son outside and mixed paint and dishwashing soap together. Then, she let him paint the sliding glass door to the backyard. I didn't have any washable paint. So, I let her paint the door with green dawn soap. She had a blast. Then, she squirted the door with a water gun.

Perfect! The door is sparkling clean and she got to be creative.

If I had a million dollars

This is what I would buy.

To look at these tumblers, you’d swear they were made of glass. In fact, what appears to be glass is a shatter-resistant polycarbonate, the same durable plastic used to make bulletproof windows. Engraved with a single-initial monogram and proportioned for serving iced tea, each of the six is lightly tinted in a different distinguishing color – a convenience when you’re entertaining outdoors.
Alas, they are too much money for me. But, they are pretty stinking cute. Do you think Wal*Mart sells these? A girl can dream!

Since it's 4000 degrees outside....

We headed to the pool yesterday. This is Maggie's new suit. She kind of looks like strawberry shortcake.

Guess what I got yesterday? The rose petal cottage that I won. And tons of accessories. I uploaded pics of it to my web album on picassa. There's also some funny pics of Mickey on there.

Enjoy!

California's top court overturns gay marriage ban

2008-05-15 14:36:04
By LISA LEFF Associated Press Writer

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — In a monumental victory for the gay rights movement, the California Supreme Court overturned a voter-approved ban on gay marriage Thursday in a ruling that would allow same-sex couples in the nation's biggest state to tie the knot.

Domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage, the justices ruled 4-3 in striking down the ban.

Outside the courthouse, gay marriage supporters cried and cheered as the news spread.

Jeanie Rizzo, one of the plaintiffs, called Pali Cooper, her partner of 19 years, and asked, "Pali, will you marry me?"

"This is a very historic day. This is just such freedom for us," Rizzo said. "This is a message that says all of us are entitled to human dignity."

In the Castro, historically a center of the gay community in San Francisco, Tim Oviatt started crying while watching the news on TV.

"I've been waiting for this all my life," he said. "This is a life-affirming moment."

The city of San Francisco, two dozen gay and lesbian couples and gay rights groups sued in March 2004 after the court halted the monthlong wedding march that took place when Mayor Gavin Newsom opened the doors of City Hall to same-sex marriages.

"Today the California Supreme Court took a giant leap to ensure that everybody — not just in the state of California, but throughout the country — will have equal treatment under the law," said City Attorney Dennis Herrera, who argued the case for San Francisco.

The challenge for gay rights advocates, however, is not over.

A coalition of religious and social conservative groups is attempting to put a measure on the November ballot that would enshrine laws banning gay marriage in the state constitution.

The Secretary of State is expected to rule by the end of June whether the sponsors gathered enough signatures to qualify the marriage amendment, similar to ones enacted in 26 other states.

If voters pass the measure in November, it would trump the court's decision.

California already offers same-sex couples who register as domestic partners the same legal rights and responsibilities as married spouses, including the right to divorce and to sue for child support.

But, "Our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation," Chief Justice Ron George wrote for the court's majority, which also included Justices Joyce Kennard, Kathryn Werdegar and Carlos Moreno.

In a dissenting opinion, Justice Marvin Baxter agreed with many arguments of the majority but said the court overstepped its authority. Changes to marriage laws should be decided by the voters, Baxter wrote. Justices Ming Chin and Carol Corrigan also dissented.

The conservative Alliance Defense Fund says it plans to ask the justices for a stay of their decision until after the fall election, said Glen Lavey, senior counsel for the group.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has twice vetoed legislation that would've granted marriage rights to same-sex couples, said in a news release that he respected the court's decision and "will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling."

Make your heart smile

Maggie woke up and found her Ariel shoes. Now, she is painting and we are watching the Delta Humane Society's show. It comes on Saturday nights on comcast. They showcase humane society animals.

There were 3 adorable kittens on that were up for adoption. Maggie screamed with delight. She ran in the living room to tell Daddy about it. She said,"you gotta come see em, Daddy. They will make your heart smile."

Let's make a list

In honor of my mom, the greatest list maker of all time. Let's make a list of things that have happened today.

* Maggie and I joined the church board this morning for breakfast. Daniel made puffy pancakes. It was so yummy!
* We went to the pool at the gym. We had so much fun. Maggie and I were the only ones there and it was so relaxing. It's an indoor pool. I kind of like that. We don't have to worry about sunscreen. She is getting to be a good little swimmer.
* We came home and I made her an icecream cone that was upside down like a clown. That was so hilariously funny to my 4 year old!
* We watched Muppets take Manhatten. I found it on ebay. I love it! I can sing along with most of it. The Muppet Babies are on it and the rats dance on butter on the skillet!
*I mailed a box to my mom on Thursday and she got it today. Shocking! Cross country mail is pretty fast.
* I ordered some bows for Maggie from:

Very cute bows and so cheap!
* Steven came home and cut the grass and Maggie played and colored.
* I went to Wal*Mart and bought dinner and supplies to make these.

It's kind of hard to see the detail, but I made her some Ariel tennis shoes for our trip to Disney world at the end of the month. It was a lot of fun making them.
*Then, Maggie fell asleep at 5:30. That could be another fun byproduct of going to the pool.
*Steven grilled mahi mahi for us on the grill for a late supper. It was super yummy.
*Just a great day!

Sleepy time

I don't think that the animals like the heat in the middle of the day. They were both fast asleep this afternoon. All afternoon.

Cherries jubilee

Maggie and I stopped at a roadside stand to pick up some cherries. We washed them and shared them with Miss Tiffany at church.

Dia de Madres

What did you get your mom for mother's day? I never know what to get. It's so weird. My mom and I are so close and we like the same things, but for some reason, I never know what to get her. I don't think that one of my gifts is giving gifts. I'm just not very good at it. You would think that it would be easy to get my mom something...just get something that I want. I think I overanalyze it. Shocking?! I know.

So, what did you get your mom for mother's day?

I'm a winner

Look what I just won!!http://www.hasbro.com/dreamtown/

From this website!http://www.5minutesformom.com/

How excited is Maggie going to be when that comes in the mail!!

WOOT!

Pink and green

My sorority colors were pink and green. My favorite color is green. Maggie loves pink. Here's a pic (not a very good one from my camera) of our watering cans by the front door.

Good day

It was just one of those days that was really good. Maggie went to preschool. Steven met me at the coffee shop and we worked on our budget. If I continue to keep up my number of classes, we can eliminate a lot of debt within the next year. Like major debt reduction by this time next year. So exciting to see that worked out on paper. Can we pull it off? God is so good. Even though we are so dumb when it comes to our money and budgeting, He still provides for us and our needs.

Then, I went to the Mother's day tea at Maggie's school. It was so cute. She made me a present and we ate strawberry shortcake together. Then, we went to Target and Chipotle for lunch. She got a new pack of drawing paper, so she was super pumped up.

Then, back home for quiet time. I got way ahead on my work. Then, we walked to the post office. We stopped at a table by a coffee shop and walked outside for a while. Just a great day.

Ate an early, light supper. We went to Stacie's house for dessert so that our husbands could meet each other. We are going to start trading off babysitting and thought that our families should meet each other. It was a nice night. Maggie was a little toot though. It was too late for us to go out and she was whiney. I guess I was wanting too much from her at the end of the day.

Now, I am watching the Office and playing scrabulous. Again, a perfect day.

Working out

Great day today! Maggie and I had our quiet time. Then, the timer went off and we went to the park across the street to play. While we were there, Stacie called to see if we wanted to use our free gym pass. So, we took the girls and walked on the treadmills for about 45 minutes. Then, Steven met us there. Came home and ate our beans that were waiting on us in the slow cooker. Just a good day. I feel better after working out.

Maggie is doing this weird thing. I know, you are shocked! She is afraid that she is going to "plug up the potty" with toilet paper. This girl uses like 1 sheet and she is so scared of plugging it up. It's so weird. I have started laying out the right amount for her so that she won't be afraid to go to the potty.

Also, I heard through the grapevine today that 4 restaurants are closing in LaGrange. I will list them in order of importance from least to Greatest.
1.Golden Corral (who cares?)
2.Ryan's (surprising...because everyone loves trough style eating)
3. Brusters (I am sad. I love their ice cream.)
4. Loco's (This is heartbreaking. This was where we played trivia every Tuesday night. so sad. What happened?)

So, on that sad note, goodnight.

I love MOPS

We had MOPS today. I love my table. There was a new girl at our table today named Katie. She was so cute and had great ideas. I was talking about how I don't like the afternoons. I don't know what to do with them. She doesn't take a nap and I don't know how to fill up the time. I feel like I get a load of laundry done, then I need to play with her, then cook dinner and then she needs me and then I have to work, too. I feel so scattered. I don't what to do with the time. Katie and Stacie suggested that I make a schedule. I thought about how much my girl loves routine. So, I started an afternoon schedule. The mornings are so varied and busy, so there's no need to have a schedule for it.

We got home from lunch and at 2:00 she went to her room for quiet play. I have a time near the door to let her know when she can come out. I told her that I wouldn't bother her at all during this time that it was her time to do whatever she wanted to do without me bothering her. She liked this idea.

She came out once for help going to the potty and went right back to her room. Then, from 3:30-4:00, we are going outside to play. Then, we have a free trial at the gym this week and there's a kid class from 4:30-5:30 that she wants to try. It's exercise class for the kids while you work out. Pretty cool. I feel much less stress. Keep your fingers crossed!!

Random things

It's a good day. Maggie went to preschool. I worked while she was in school. Things at church are awesome. I picked up Maggie after preschool. Her teacher reported that Maggie said she was "literally tired". Where does she get these things? Then, I got a VBS handout from her school. Yay for VBS! I signed her up online as she ate her lunch. Steven was making fun of me for being "one of those people who sign their kids up for different VBS". Whateva! I am okay with being one of those people.

Maggie came home from preschool and put on her pjs since she was literally tired. She tried to use her walkie talkies. She couldn't get them to work and was frustrated. She said" Great caesar's ghost!". What?! She picks up some strange phrases.

Now, we are cleaning up and playing. Maggie is getting so much better at playing in her room by herself. Heavenly!

Today

Today, my husband did a grand thing.

He let me take a nap. Not just a few minutes long either. It was 3 hours long. I was so wiped out from the weekend. I tried to plug along all day long and I finally collapsed around 2:00. I feel like a new woman.

This weekend, we are going to Monterey Bay. I am so excited. This girl needs to see some water.

Do guys ever grow up?

I am in the Main Street Cafe (free wifi) and I'm watching the Monday regulars. There's a group of old guys that meet here for coffee. It's about 6 of them and they are over 70 years old. One of the guys just left for the bathroom and the others started giggling and deciding what to do to his coffee. They contemplated salt in the coffee, but decided on the more mature thing to do. They poked holes in his coffee cup. Then, he came back to the table and tried not to look at him. He took a sip, but it didn't spill. They were so disappointed. So, are they in 3rd grade?

Recipe for black beans

Our family loves black beans. We eat them a lot. I just found a new recipe for making black beans. It's on our menu for this week.

I wanted to try out something new

No offense to Xanga. Just wanting to try something different. Not that I have anything else going on right now (note sarcasm here).

I would like to have more say so in the layout and provide links on my blog that stayed on my main page. I don't know if I will keep it, just thought I'd play with it.
