A love and hate relationship

Maggie loves, loves, loves Sparky (our newest kitten). She drags him around the house and races in to see him after preschool. Unfortunately, he is still a kitten and loves to scratch and knock her art projects on the floor and bat things around. This frustrates her to no end. I spend a lot of my time reminding Maggie not to scream at her beloved kitten. Then, 10 seconds later, they are snuggled up together or playing with his laser pointer that is a pink mouse.

A couple of nights ago, after a fight between the two of them, she was holding Sparky and hugging him. She said," I just love Sparky. I love him even when he makes mistakes." Then, she said, "I love him like God loves me. He loves me even when I make mistakes."

Then, I melted into a mommy puddle on the floor.

As the weather gets warmer, a gentle reminder

I have seen this before and I love it each year.

The 2009 Spring Shoe Pledge (Repeat After Me)...

Every year, we must remind ourselves of the rules. Proper sandal wearing is like riding a bike...one never forgets...however; we must need a brush-up course to keep us current...

As a member of the SHOE DIVA CLUB, I pledge to follow the rules when I wear sandals and other open-toe shoes:

*

I PROMISE to always wear sandals that fit. My toes will not hang over and touch the ground, nor will my heels spill over the backs. The sides and tops of my feet will not protrude out between the strap. This type of protrusion has been and always will be referred to as "bread-a-rising." Keep bread only in the oven.

*

I WILL go polish-free or vow to keep the polish fresh, intact and chip-free. I will not cheat and just touch up my big toe. I will sand down any mounds of skin before they turn hard and yellow. I promise not to tape my toenail onto my toe if it should fall off either.

* I WILL NOT wear suntan pantyhose with open toe or sandals even if my misinformed girlfriend, coworker, mother or sister tells me the toe seam really will stay under my toes if I tuck it there. Super glue is not an option, either.

* If a strap breaks, I WON'T duct-tape, staple, pin, glue or tuck it back into place hoping it will stay put. I will get my shoe fixed or toss it. A shoe cobbler can be on speed dial.

* I WILL NOT wear toe rings. Hello, the eighties are calling and they want their toe rings back. And for the good of mankind, I will make a sizeable donation to my charity of choice for every toe ring I currently wear.

*

PROMISE to throw away any white/off-white sandals that show signs of wear...nothing is worse than dirty white sandals. WHITE is in, just not dirty white. Replace those with miles with new ones.

No one wants to go to the FARM

My mom posted this note on her facebook. I didn't want to forget it:

On the way back from picking us up from the airport, Beth (in the back of the van) was telling Steven (in the front of the van) a story about an upcoming field trip for Maggie's preschool. She didn't want Maggie to know, so she was spelling a lot of words.

At one point, Maggie (sitting next to me in the middle of the van) said: "Memaw, come here, I want to whisper something to you." I said, "OK," and put my ear up to her mouth.

She wbispered: "Don't tell mommy but I know F-A-R-M spells farm."

I thought I would fall off my seat laughing -- but I couldn't tell Beth.

HSM4

This is pretty funny!

My arch enemy

I never, ever thought that I would blog about this loser. However, having a baby changes things.

On Saturday, Mom and Mr. Tom went back home. Maggie was very upset about this. We had a really nice visit and she was sad that everyone was going home. She negotiated with Mom and she left her stuffed dog with Maggie.

Newdoggy is 46 years old. He is my mom's beloved stuffed dog and Maggie thinks he's great. He even smells like Memaw. So, he will be with us til we go to Georgia at the end of the month. I don't think that my mom has ever been without him for a day and I think she is now missing Maggie and her stuffed dog. I wonder if she will survive without both of them.

Newdoggy has been so many places. We stopped by Popeye's after the airport.

He also tried out preaching on Sunday before Steven got started.

Maggie's made me promise not to put him in the freezer while we are watching him. Because she asked me so nicely. I "might" consider her request.....
