Zhu Zhu babies

WARNING: This is an extremely CUTE blog!!

A couple of weeks ago, I got a package in the mail. It contained utter cuteness.

Maggie has several Zhu Zhu pets already. They get played with OCCASSIONALLY.

But, this was a box of babies.

According to Maggie, "everything is cuter when it's small and little."

We received a huge box of zhu zhu babies and a nursery that is powered by a big Zhu Zhu pet nurse. And the best thing of all was baby clothes!

Even Patrick loved them. I think it was because there was a tiny toy train for the Zhu Zhu babies to play with.

This is a big hit in our house. They get played with a lot and taken on the swing set and loved and cuddled.

And they are "little and cute"!

Field trip

Today, Maggie's class went to the farm. The last field trip to the farm that she went on in preschool didn't go so well. Who knew a kid could hold her nose for 2.5 hours?

This one was much, much better! We went to a small farm in Stockton. I heard they have an excellent website.

Maggie's in a first/second grade combo class, so only the 1st graders went today. There were 15 of them. She has been with most of them for 2 years now and they are such a sweet, smart class of kids. It was really a lot of fun to hang out with them today.

The sun was so bright that Maggie "couldn't look up". Oh, the drama.

They loaded up on the bus, which was very exciting. Most of them had never ridden a bus before. They were very cute and nervous. Kirsten commented that you couldn't see them from the side because they were so short. It looked like an empty bus.

They went on a hay ride to see the orchard.

They picked strawberries. They got to pick out 5 strawberries. Maggie and Katelyn kept talking about how "fresh" they tasted.

They talked about what it takes to make a plant grow and they planted their own watermelon plants to take home with them.

It was such a fun day. I'm so glad that I get to go on these trips with Maggie!

Why there isn't an Easter post...

So, Maggie was sick for 2 weeks straight before Easter. She finally got antibiotics for pneumonia and left the couch and I thought we were back to "normal".

Patrick promptly got sick. I think there was about 24 hours before he started getting sick. He struggles with allergies/asthma issues. He also stops eating, gags on everything and is in a REALLY bad mood. He screamed and said "NO" to everything. IT.WAS. AWESOME.

Saturday was the pinacle of it all. He was in the worst mood and really didn't feel good. It was pitiful and frustrating. He fell asleep at 6:30. He woke up at 8:30 and was back to his sweet self. He snuggled and watched cartoons and ate. He went back to sleep a little while later and I breathed a sigh of relief. i thought he was better.

I got everybody up on Easter Sunday and put on their cute Easter outfits. Maggie decided that her Easter shirt was too itchy, but we resolved it quickly and our family matched nicely.

We went to church to help with the Easter brunch and everyone was still happy.

At the brunch, he started getting fussy again, but I thought it was just a bad attitude. I was eating brunch and he ran towards the nursery with Jude. Donna came up and said, "Patrick is throwing up in the sanctuary."

Great.

You know you're a preacher's kid when.....

I picked him up and took him up and cleaned the throw up off of me and off of him and out of his shoes, etc. Steven and Mr. Tom got to clean up the sanctuary floor right before the service started.

Everyone came home later. Steven was sneezing and coughing, Tom looked miserable, Mom was coughing and sneezing, Maggie was pitiful, etc.

Steven went to our room to watch golf and I stayed in the living room with Patrick. Patrick promptly cut his lip and we finally got it to stop bleeding.

Therefore, I didn't get a cute picture of our family for Easter. I'm kinda bummed. I guess we can just pretend that our picture from last year is this year's picture.

Team Pink

Miss Tiffany and Mr. Jesse are going to find out if they are having a boy or a girl.

Maggie is taking this very personally and is DYING for them to have a girl.

Last night, I said to Maggie, "Tomorrow we find out if it's a boy or a girl."

She squealed and said, "Yay. Did you know that there is a 50% chance that she is having a girl?!".

If you think about it, it is true!

12 long years together

Tonight, Steven and I were discussing how crazy it is that we will have been married for 10 years tonight.

In a way, it seems like it has gone by in the blink of an eye. But then it feels like we have been together for a very long time.

I asked him if it had been all blissful years together.

He said that 8 of those years had been amazing.

I asked what was wrong with the other 4 years.

Insert pause here.

Steven said, "Beth, 4 plus 8 does not equal 10."

I think this disqualifies me from helping with Maggie's math homework from now on.

Ca-chow

Patrick has attached himself to his Lightning McQueen hotwheel car. He ALWAYS has it in his left hand.

He sleeps with "ca-chow".

He tries to eat and drink with "ca-chow'.

He takes him in the car.

He takes him to Miss Sandee's house.

He takes him in the bathtub. He probably needs a bath anyway.

He takes him on the swing.

It's funny that this is what he wants to snuggle with . It's hard and metal and not cuddly at all. But, he has to have him to go to sleep at night. When I get him out of bed in the morning, he's in his right hand.

Yesterday, I was pushing him in the swing and I asked Patrick for a kiss. He headbutted me (that's how he kisses) and then put "ca-chow" up to my lips to kiss.

I looked down at the car and it has eyes and a mouth like thing on the front of his hood. I softened. This is Patrick's "friend". Okay, I'm starting to see the cuddliness in that red, metal car, too!

Psalm 139: Perfectly made

I have to admit that this is kinda like a repeat for me. I was in charge of our ladies' bible study a couple of weeks ago. This is what I talked about.

Psalm 139: 13For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

If you have been pregnant, think about how you prepared for your new child. Or how did your mother prepare for you? What do people do to prepare for a child?

We look at ultrasound pictures and desperately try to see things. Unless we have someone telling us what to look for, can you tell anything about him from these pictures?

Before Maggie was born, I had approximately 7 showers. Her room was perfect. She was wanted and loved and read to every night in the womb. I had a monitor where Steven could talk to her in my tummy. It was funny because she would start to kick really hard when he would talk to her. He would have to move his head back or he would get kicked in the head. I even have a scrapbook page with this verse on it and her ultrasound pictures.

Fast forward 5 years later, we got a call the week before Labor Day and we got Patrick on that Friday. We had no time to prepare. My grandmother’s crib that we had used for Maggie fell apart the night before he showed up. We had to get one from Kim and Daniel. Rikki brought her old car seat and he came with a few clothes. He was not prepared for at all.

He came from a mother and father who could not take care of him. They did not care what happened to him. He was not wanted.

Sounds like an awful start to life. How could these two children be any different? Won’t they grow up to have a different outlook on things? But, in a message Steven gave recently, I heard this verse in a different way. When I think about the psalm, I am encouraged.

Psalm 139: 13For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

He wasn’t wanted by his biological parents. But, God had him in the palm of His hand. He had put him together perfectly in the womb.

This is so encouraging for us. Maybe you don’t see yourself as perfect. Maybe you weren’t prepared for and WANTED. But, you were perfectly made by God.

Think about what it was that you don’t like about yourself. What was it that you burned last week? Tell your neighbor something that you don’t like about yourself. Anyone want to share?

We don’t have to hold on to that negative stuff. God made us perfect. He had just the right parts and temperament and personality and made us that way. What is one thing that you like about yourself that God made perfect in you?

Is it easier or harder to think about a negative thing or a positive thing?

What about what we see in others? Do you see the negative or the positive thing in others first?

How do you keep in mind what God sees when you see someone else? What about when they annoy you?

How do you handle someone when you have a conflict with them? Do you try to remember how God sees them?

Find someone now and talk to them about a conflict you have with someone in your life. If you don’t have a current one, maybe one in the past that you have a hard time letting go.

Pray together for each other and the issue you are having. Get together this week and discuss how you are doing with this conflict. Then, what do you need to do with that conflict. Can you meet with that person that you are struggling with? Would that help?

Pray for the group.
