Maggie was talking to me tonight. Here's the conversation:

Maggie: Mom, I think I'm getting a unibrow.

Me: What are you talking about? You barely even have eyebrows. You have light red eyebrows that you can hardly see.

Maggie: Oh yea, I forgot. (laughing)

Me: Where did you hear the word unibrow?

Maggie: Spongebob. Squidward has one.

Me: Oh yea, I forgot. (laughing)

Maggie was watching tv with Steven tonight and a commercial came on. It was a commercial for medication.

Announcer: If you become blind or deaf while taking this medicine, contact your doctor.
Maggie: Wait a minute. If you're blind or deaf, how can you call your doctor?

Good question!

Team Pink

Miss Tiffany and Mr. Jesse are going to find out if they are having a boy or a girl.

Maggie is taking this very personally and is DYING for them to have a girl.

Last night, I said to Maggie, "Tomorrow we find out if it's a boy or a girl."

She squealed and said, "Yay. Did you know that there is a 50% chance that she is having a girl?!".

If you think about it, it is true!

Superman

Today, Maggie was watching Superman with Steven. The evil villain was shooting the good citizens to annoy Superman.

This guy gets shot by a laser and Maggie says, "I hope that guy has good health insurance."

It's a laugh a minute around here.

Maggie-isms

Last night, I put Maggie to bed. She said that "she was sweating more than a sinner in church".

Then, I came to check on her in 3 minutes as she asked me to do. She asked me if I was watching tv.

I told her that I was hanging out with Steven talking to him.

She said, "Daddy is so awesome. I wish I would've married him before you go to him. "

I told her that she would find someone awesome for her to marry when it was time to get married (like in 27 years).

She said, "I wish I could make a replica of Daddy. Could we put him on a copier and make a copy of him for me to marry me?".

Then, she fell asleep and the Maggie-isms were over for the night.

24 hours a day

My daughter can read. This is most evident in the car. She is constantly sounding out road signs and billboards.

Most of our conversations go like this:

Maggie: Mommy, what does S-P-E-E-D say?
Mommy: I don't know. Why don't you sound it out?
Maggie: Sp-eed. Speed. Cool. What does that mean? Why do we need speed limits? Why would people want to go faster than they should?Etc.

When I worked with Pre-K, I got to go to some of the teaching training workshops. I remember that one of the first ways that children learn how to read is from reading "environmental print". This is why children from an early age know that the word under the golden arches says McDonald's.

My daughter is embarrassingly good at environmental print from fast food restaurants.

So, we passed Walgreens on Sunday. She calls it "wal-grees" and I am not going to correct her on that because it's kind of cute.




She said, "Walgrees. Open 24 hours". Then, she paused. She said, "Wow, I feel sorry for the wagrees workers. They have to stay there for 24 hours. I bet they get really tired."

Then, we passed Steven running and she said, "Hurry up and get to him and roll down the window so I can cheer for Daddy!"

Christmas pajamas

Maggie loves to wear the pajamas that I got her for Christmas. They are really cute and have little polka dots all over them.


Tonight, she told me that when she was younger (last month), she thought that if she wore her Christmas pajamas that it would be Christmas when she woke up in the morning.

Maybe that's why she wears them so much!

Bedtime Prayers

Last night, I was putting Maggie to sleep. When we pray together, she asks me to pray first and she follows.

I thanked God for our family and for creating the world.

Dear God,

Thank for you Daddy, Mommy and Patrick. Thank you for Memaw and Nah Nah. Thank you for Willie, Mickey and Sparky. Thank you for making everything in the world, except for
yucky bugs. I don't like those.

Maggie was helping me bring in a "HUGE" box of paper towels yesterday. I was holding the door open for her. She said, "um.... um.....mommy" and she struggled to bring in the papertowels. Then, she blurted out in a loud voice "Mommy, I love you."

I told her that I loved her, too. She said "I just wanted you to know in case I pass out!"

Maggie's morning musings

This morning, Maggie went to the back door and was talking outside. I asked her about who she was talking to. She said that she was talking to God. She was just thanking Him for making us and for "creating our beautiful earth".

Then, a little while later, she was talking outside again. This time she was talking to the birdies who have nested in our tall sanctuary air vent. She chirps at them a lot and thinks it's so cool that they are living in our church. She asked me "if the birdies were homeschooled". I told her that I just didn't know. She said, "I was just wondering because they live only in the church and don't go anywhere. I wondered if their mommy just taught them in their nest."

Obsession with infomercials

My daughter was watching a few minutes of tv this morning. Her favorite new commercial came on tv.My daughter has always been obsessed with infomercials. Her current obsession is called the "touch and brush". It comes in a variety of colors....even chrome! It dispenses toothpaste for you so you don't make a mess in the bathroom. It sticks to the mirror and dispenses the toothpaste for you right onto the toothbrush. She wants one but her dad thinks that it would be a better gift for Maggie's mom.

Her first infomercial love was aqua globes. She got it for Christmas this year. What 4 year old gets excited about a thing that waters your plants (we have no plants) while you are on vacation?

I must admit that she comes by this love of infomercials genetically from her mother. When I was in elementary school, I became obsessed with something called "sherlock". It was a tool that could "sock it up in seconds". I would quote it all the time. If you turned the tool around, it untwisted just as easily. sigh. I can't find a picture of it to show you this magical tool. Guess what I got for Christmas that year? I was estatic. My dad even got a block of wood and put screws in it so that I could practice with my "sherlock socks it up in seconds".

Unfortunately, there are days when my daughter watches too much tv. Darn that Nick Jr. I hate how many commercials are on that channel. I try to get her outside and dig in the yard with me, but there are some days when she watches too many infomercials. This is evident in the fact that she was begging for a snuggie for her last birthday.

I told her that I wasn't going to get it because it would be too big for her. To which, she sighed and said, "Mom, it fits all sizes and even kids, too." Then, she paused and said, "I don't think it will fit dogs and kitties, though."

Hmmmm....maybe I should invent a snugglie for dogs and kitties?

A love and hate relationship

Maggie loves, loves, loves Sparky (our newest kitten). She drags him around the house and races in to see him after preschool. Unfortunately, he is still a kitten and loves to scratch and knock her art projects on the floor and bat things around. This frustrates her to no end. I spend a lot of my time reminding Maggie not to scream at her beloved kitten. Then, 10 seconds later, they are snuggled up together or playing with his laser pointer that is a pink mouse.

A couple of nights ago, after a fight between the two of them, she was holding Sparky and hugging him. She said," I just love Sparky. I love him even when he makes mistakes." Then, she said, "I love him like God loves me. He loves me even when I make mistakes."

Then, I melted into a mommy puddle on the floor.

What I heard from the front seat of the car

Tonight, Maggie was talking to Memaw on the phone. This was the version of the conversation that I heard from the front seat of the car that took place on the way home.

Maggie: Hey, Memal.
Maggie: Yea, Daddy's not here right now. He's in the, um....what's it called again, mommy?
Me: The Philipines
Maggie: He's in the Philipeades, Memal
Maggie: Is it Patrick's day there in Georgia?
Maggie: Wow, it's Patrick's day here too. I'm wearing all green except for my my shorts. They are black. 'Scuse me. I had to say 'Scuse me cause I just burped. 'Scuse me again, Memal.
Maggie: Yea, Daddy's in the Philipeades for 16 days. He has to tell people there about Jesus because they don't know about Jesus there. It sure does take them a long time to hear about Him. I miss Daddy.


That was about it. She told me that she used to think (when she was 3) that Patrick's Day was named for Sponge Bob's friend, Patrick.

Another story of how my daughter is brilliant

Sorry if you are tired of these, I'm just afraid I will forget if I don't write them down.

Today, we were listening to HSM3's soundtrack in the car because she has a goal to memorize all of the music. I asked her a question about the high school and if it was East High or West High. I couldn't remember. She said, "hmmm....well, I think that they are in California (actually, they are in AZ, but that's not the point!). And they had to order those really cool costumes from the east and have them shipped to the west."

I asked her where California was and she said "on the west". Isn't that crazy?! I remember being confused by that when I had a test on it in the 1st or 2nd grade. I couldn't ever remember which was east and which was west.

Yep, she's brilliant.

The fishies

Our daughter, the little environmentalist, will only use a little bit of water when brushing her teeth. This is in order to "save the water for the fishies".

Tonight, she was brushing her teeth and said,"I wish I was a fish. They never close their eyes when they are sleeping. I wish I could keep my eyes open when I was sleeping. I hate bedtime". I told her that a time would come when she would like going to sleep. She didn't believe me.

I can remember feeling that same way.I hated bedtime. I would wiggle and wiggle during bedtime. I used delay tactics like needing to get 1 more glass of water over and over. I got a note in kindergarten sent home to my mom. It said "Beth wiggles during naptime". Oh the horrors, at least I wasn't hitting someone during naptime.

Now, I would kill for a daily naptime. That sounds like heaven. To have an hour long nap during the middle of the day. I got somewhat used to it when Maggie took a nap everyday. Occasionally, I would head off the guilt and lay down while she napped too. But, she's too old for naptime now. UGH.

Back to the fishies, while she was rinsing and spitting, she screamed, "MOMMY!" I ran in the bathroom to see what was wrong. She said,"now I just spit all that yucky stuff on the fishies. They need clean water. What will they swim in?" Oh the drama.

A nice long nap

Wednesdays are long days for Maggie. In the morning, we have MOPS. Then, after lunch, she goes to preschool. She comes home and eats dinner and then goes to Awanas. It's funny because the other days are not nearly as busy. In fact, we were so bored yesterday trying to find something to fill up the afternoon.

So, when I picked her up from Awanas, her teacher said that she was really tired tonight. She told her teacher that "her mommy won't let her take a nap anymore because then she won't go to sleep at night".

Then, Maggie told me that she fell asleep during a veggie tales movie tonight. She took a "nice long nap" during the movie and now doesn't need to go to bed tonight. Great.

Bethlehem

My daughter likes to play wii. A lot.

She downloaded a Jesus mii and she likes to choose him for some of the sports. She especially likes him when she is boxing. Which, I admit, is kind of disturbing on some level. But, funny, too.

She is bowling right now with Jesus. This is the conversation that took place while she was bowling.

Maggie: Did they have bowling alleys in Bethlehem?
Me: no
Maggie: Well, then, how did God put that idea in people's heads to have bowling alleys?

My daughter is hilarious....maybe I'm a little biased

Here is the latest installment of Maggie fun sayings:

* We were in Louisiana for Katie's wedding. We brought our wii with us (yes, we are nerds). Papa has a huge flat screen tv. After we got home, Maggie said "what happened to our tv? It used to be huge and now it is shrunk."

* We were in a very posh hotel with an even more posh bed. The bedding was plush and made our little heater (aka Maggie) very hot at night. She would wake up hot and sweaty in the morning. One morning, she was telling Steven about being hot after she woke up. She said, "I went to bed and I was fine. I woke up and BOOM...I was sweaty".

* She has decided that all of her stuffed animals have the last name "Summers" which is my maiden name.

* Last night, I went to the store to get some ornament storage boxes. I asked Steven if he needed anything and she piped up" Yes, I need some bottles for my babies. They are very thirsty". It was an automatic response...like she had been thinking about this "need" for some time.

* She has 7 babies in her tummy right now and if you touch her tummy, they kick you very violently.

* She is obsessed with the chicken dance now since going to Katie's wedding. She loves to demonstrate it for anyone that asks to see the dance.

* She is becoming such a big girl. We went to Costco and she would mark off the things on the list as we picked them up. I would tell her the first few letters of what we just bought and she would scratch them off.

* Tanya told her that the best words in the world are "free and coupons". She lives by this mantra now and loves "snack time" with the free samples at Costco.

* She can spell certain words. Some of the bad words on her list are dumb and stupid. I spelled that something was "d-u-m-b" to Steven and she quickly got onto me for using a bad word.
